The two stories that always spring to mind when I think of John are: The day at my mum and dad's house when we were about 20 when I went out into the kitchen to make a coffee like one of the family always did at about 10pm. The house was very old and the kitchen looked out onto the back garden, and with the light on you couldn't see anything. Except, outside next to the window, there was a hook with a cloth on it!! I happened to catch sight of the cloth and there in the shadows was a face looking in at me. My heart nearly stopped but then I realised it was John, thinking it was a really good joke but at the time I couldn't see the funny side, but ever since it always makes me smile. The other time was when I was in the bedroom with Hayley and Laura and was laying face down on the bed, John came in and put something on my back and said it was a cup of coffee and not to laugh because I would spill it and it was really hot!! Obviously, I thought he really had put a cup on my back and was telling him to stop being so stupid and take it off, cos I was laughing and thought I was going to scald myself. He didn't take it off for some time and I got slowly angry, but it was a tub of Nivea and I felt a right prat when I found out. Hayley, Laura and John all thought it was hilarious and I must admit it was. What a person he was, always doing silly things to make people laugh and sometimes doing silly things without meaning to, but still making people laugh!!! He was such an amazing dad and an amazing grandad too. Duncan has a few good stories too, which I think Hayley and Laura are going to share. You touched many people's lives and will never be forgotton. Love from Jean x
